Root44 Market Closed Until Further Notice
Root44 Market, on the R44 between Stellenbosch and Somerset West, has been a familiar stop in the Cape Winelands since 2012, known for its food stalls, craft traders and live entertainment.
On 30 June 2026 the market announced it will be closed until further notice, following a planning dispute between the market’s owners and Stellenbosch Municipality. Both parties have issued statements giving differing accounts of what led to the closure – we won’t wade into that here.
