Alphen Market returns with Friday evenings and a themed summer calendar
The Constantia market reopens this Friday for its 2026/2027 season, now running one long weekend a month and welcoming the Potters Market to its new home under the trees.
The Alphen Market reopens on Alphen Common this Friday 30 October 2026, and it’s a different kind of season. Instead of trading on selected weekends twice a month, the market now runs one long weekend a month from October to March, and each weekend has its own theme.
The biggest change is Friday. For the first time, the market opens from 2pm to 8pm on the Friday of each market weekend, which makes it an easy end to the working week: knock off early, find a table under the trees and stay for an early supper from the food traders. Saturdays and Sundays keep their daytime hours, 9am to 4pm.
The season opens with an Oktoberfest weekend, with a selection of special beers added to the bars’ usual range.
There’s also genuine news for ceramics lovers. The Potters Market, held twice a year at Rondebosch Park for more than 45 years, has moved to Alphen Common. It trades alongside the Alphen Market in November and again for the season finale in March, bringing handmade work from potters and ceramicists across the Western Cape, from everyday mugs and bowls to sculptural pieces.

The rest stays familiar. You’ll find more than 100 traders selling food, craft and fashion, light acoustic music through the day, licensed bars, and workshops and activities for children. Pets are welcome on a leash, parking is free, there are toilets and disabled access on site, and most traders take card and QR payments.
The market is weather dependent, so it’s worth checking their social pages before heading out on an unsettled day.
